MAIZE EXPORTS.
SECOND USE FOR SACKS. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) SYDNEY, July 2. Mr. Pratten, Minister for Customs, assured a deputation of produce agents that, subject to New Zealand’s approval, the Customs Department will permit the exportation to the Dominion of maize bagged in . sacks which had been used, once for flour if the maize is intended, for feed purposes. Mr Pratten pointed out to the deputation that the present regulations .which permitted exportation only when the maize contained iii new bags were the'cause of considerable embarrassment. The bags it was desired- to use would be used only to carry flour for human consumption. They would be turned before being filled with maize, and consequently there was no' fear that they would carry infected seed. All New Zealand desired' was a guarantee that maize from New South Wales wtould be free from weevil, and not come from tick-infested areas. Mr Pratten stated that he wouldVeablc to the New' Zealand authorities to-day.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
