SECOND NATIONAL AND FIRST TARANAKI SALE. TO-MORROW, AT SHOWGROUNDS. Hawera is -entitled to congratulations on the fact that the New Zealand Friesian Association selected this town for an event which is of very f gie;it importance to the breeders of the black and whites, and to the district generally, the second national and first Taranaki show and sale, which will take place to-mcrrow at the Egmont, A. ana P. Grounds. Ihe day will open with a demonstration at 10 o’clock, prior to the judging, which will commence at 11.30 a.m. The sale will open at 1.15 p.m. In all fifty female cattle and ten stud bulls will be submitted, and as they are from many of the best herds in the North Island, there is certain to be keen competition for animals, the use of which will undoubtedly help to raise; the standard of the herds into which they are taken. It will be an excellent opportunity for young breeders to secure a bull to ‘ head their herds.
In the. list of vendors Taranaki is well represented. Messrs G. A. Marchant and Sons, of Cardiff, will submit four heifers of their own breeding, which show very classy pedigree. A Star representative saw these young animals on the farm, and noted that they are all showing very strong development and all look likely to be large producers. Mr H. E. Johnson, of Tokaora, the well-known and successful Tokaora breeder, will submit five heifers, all showing excellent and proved breeding. His animals have always been successini in the show ring and have proved great producers. Mr . E. O’Shea, of Ohangai, is another breeder who has had many show successes. His young hull to be submitted to-morrow is a son of the herd sire which has been undefeated wherever shown. Mr L. Hitchcock is one of the first breeders of Friesians in Taranaki, and during his long period of breeding has always paid the greatest care in securing the best blood possible. This marks the dispersal of a fine herd. Another local breeder who will show a number of well-hied cattle is Mr T. Henderson, of Raeawa. His entry includes eight females and two hull's. Another well-known popular breedei, whose cattle are known far and wide, is Mr John Irnlah, of Manaia. He submits six cows and heifers and two hulls, and all are worth careful inspection bv buyers. Mr T. Perry, of Mangatoki, has also a great record for producers and show animals, and will, submit a son of tire great cow Favne Segis Galatea, by Cliffside Laddie Beauty. The “Pine Grove Herd,” at Riverlea, has made Mr ,T. Stfibles known as a Friesian breeder, and he anil be represented by four heifers from the best strains. Mr G. Jones, of Lowgarth, and Mrs Yeatman. of Stratford, also submit some fine stock. The breedrs from outside the district are Mr John Donald, Messrs Baldwin and Soir. D. Dickie (Wellington), and J. McAnultv (Canterbury). The entry of stock is a record, and will be & great opportunity for breeders. The sale will be conducted by the Farmers’ Co-op. and Wright. Stephenson and Co.. Ltd.
