ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
Many now features are to he seen in the very tine and artistically designed exhibit which this progressive sorietv always makes at the Winter Show’. ilic.se serve to demonstrate to some extent the progressive character of tlie (oinnnttee. who, under their enthusiastic president (Mr B. C. .Bennett) are ung a 'great work for sportsmen in the district. Ihe idea of giving an entrance at one door and a promenade tinougn the exit door is a gieat .scheme and well, controls the great crowds who ccme to see the exhibit. The usual demonstration of the hatching of the trout is shown from the oval to the o-\enr Jisli. and in addition many stalled samples of line fish .caught "in the district streams and a freak “Pelorns tlar.i, an .tihjne- rainbow. Among Ihe live buds are the while and Idaek swans, Canadian geese. Cayuga, grev and mallard ducks, pheasants, and the pukeko. and the pretty little silvergioy opossum is shown in his cage. The museum of stuffed hiuals is alwavs being increased, and this rear will be seen two lovely birds of paradise, the golden and the till ted. The former is especially beautiful. There are also .stuffed spedimoiis of practical!v all the New Zealand birds, and several Australian birds and animals. The walls are tastefully decorated w'ith pictures, opossum skins (secured and cured and made up at Araratal, boar’s head, deer heads, and many other trophies of the chase. A fine collection of native paddles, spears, kits and mats is also to be seen. The whole forms a most attractive exhibit, and is a tribute to the energy, enthusiasm and artistic taste of the committee. It is one well worth seeing hv every visitor to the show.
