SENIORS. ’ TUKAPA (11) v. WAIMATE (9) ; A large crowd watched this match with keen* interest; Waimate 'kicked off,. and after a lot of give and take ; play without much advantage to either side Stohr finished a good passing rush by just failing to score, 'lukapa kept up the pressure, and from a penalty' for offside Ennis kicked a goal. Waimate. attacked strongly, and their opponents had to force. , At length Einiis got the backs moving, aikbaiter a nice nassing rush McLean took a pass: and 1 dived over. No goal resulted. Taylor and Birchall headed a hot Waimate - rush, and after a keen struggle Murray scored-a good trv. L. Hughes failed with the kick. The Tukapa backs were playing finely, and set up many rushes, but Waimate defence was sound. * . After half-time Waimate made the pace hot, and just failed to score .on several- occasions. They were letting the ball’ out to the backs and playing a good game, but found Tukapa defence too solid. At length Tukapa rallied, and Ennis, Olliver, and Jeffries attacked, and Hooker following up smartly scored a pretty try. Just after the ki,ck-out L. Hughes made a great run, and when tackled passed to Christie, who had little difficulty in crossing the line. Taylor failed to convert. Keeping up the pressure, Waimate crowded on the opposing line, and Taylor picked uo and scored a try, which was not converted. Time was called immediately, leaving Tukapa winners after a keen contest. . Mr A. F. Neilson was referee.
INGLEWOOD (10) v. STAR (6). * A hotly contested match resulted in a good win for the visiting team at New Plymouth. The Inglewood pack was somewhat stronger, and this mainly accounted for their win. Inglewood backs got the' hall from the, .scrum, and rushed downfield, where, aided by the forwards, the ball was carried, over the line and Laurence scored, C. Nicholls converting. In the second spell Star attacked, and in a good position a penalty goal was notched, giving them their first score. Shortly after Inglewood backs got moving, and L. Ross scored a nice try, - Nicholls again converting. Despite strenuous efforts by both sides, the only further score was another penalty goal, scored by Star. Mr L. Goodacre was referee. SCHOOL MATCH. Manaia Public School played the Manaia Convent at Manaia on Saturdav. and the former won bv 13 points to 11. ; ‘
