Substitutes for leather and the difference qualities of actual leather have occasioned - much thought to Labour Department officers responsible for administering the law relating to shoddy footwear. There has been a conference between the footwear inspectors and a representative of the trade with a view t« securing more satisfactory methods of dealing with the question. As a result certain suggestions have been made which will be submitted to. the Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister for Labour), who is considering the advisability of introducing legislation on the subject. ,
