EGYPT

THE SUDAN QUESTION. A POLITICAL MOVE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, June 29. The Daily Mail says that London officials acquainted with Egyptian affairs attach little importance to the action of the Premier (Zaglul Pasha) in proffering the *; resignation of the Government. It- is merely a political move, for Zaglul Pasha knows well that no British Government could betray itself; its pledges, its officials, its life work and British commerce by handing oyer the Sudan. Zaglul Pasha is adopting an extreme attitude in order to forestall any rival adopting it.. If thereafter the Egyptian Chamber maintains him in office, as is likely, he will thereby be placed in a position to negotiate with Britain in order to get the best terms he can, though formally he does not accept Britain’s right to retain the Sudan. CAIRO, June 29. Zaghiul’s departure for Alexandria was in accordance with the decision he announced in the Chamber last evening in the course of a .speech. Replying to Lord Parmopr’s speech in the Lords, Zaghlul declared that Egypt would never renounce' her rights to the Soudan. 'He himself would never negotiate with the British Government on the basis of the declaration of Feb-ruai-y 19. 1922, He had hoped the Labour Government would support the. cause of liberty, but unfortunately it followed the same line.* as all the Imperialistic Governments. Zaghlul concluded by /declaring..that if he was unable to get satisfaction he would resign He- would submit the matter to the King.—Reuter.
