In summarising the activities of the club during the season the-report read as follows: Your committee, report having had another successful vear. The official opening iof the green passed off most satisfactorily, visiting clubs being well represented, and the playing capacity of .the green was .fully taxed. The green has; played well throughout the season, and very complimentary expressions were passed by visiting clubs on the excellent state of , the green. Great credit is due to the Green Committee (Messrs Corkill and McDonald), who have put in a lot of work on 'the greed throughout the year.- A word of -praise is also due. to the caretaker (Mr ,Jas. Allen) for his untiring efforts in preparing the green. The club haS experienced a record season as regard, the weather, - the i;e being Rraetically eight months’ play. In the Banner and Syme Shield competitions the club was iiot so fortunate as the previous, year, Hawera being runnerup to Manaia in the Southern Division for the Banner. Manaia also Avon the Syme Shield, and are to be congratulated on their play during the season. Besides .playing matches with several clubs affiliated to the Taranaki Centre, the club was favoured by visits from the Eketahuna and Manawatu touring teams, and excellent games were provided. The club was also favoured bv having the Champion of Champions Singles of the .Centre played on the green. In tournaments the club was represented by one rink at Naoier, one at Wanganui, four at the Centre, and seven- at South Taranaki, played on the Park and Hawera greens. In the latter five rinks" got into- post-sectional olay, while one rink (skipped by' Mr ,Corkill). got into the-senii-finals ' The club ;,was also well represented in the Taraiiaki touring teams’ Visit to Auckland. In speaking of the .balance-sheet, Mr Adqmson said he was pleased that the; season had shown a credit balance on the working of the club. . During the past year the. committee had to meet a lot of extra expense which will be non-recurring, and will place the club on a much better footing for the coming season. He was sorrv to have to aqm.it that there were still a" .few- unpaid subscriptions, and he would urge upon members to pay these at once. After several other .matters in con-
flection with the balance-sheet . had been discussed the meeting proceeded with tire' election of officers for the ensuing year, with the following result: P a tfpn : Mr G. Syme, senr. (re-elected) ; president, Mr §. Adanison (re-elected) vice-presidents, Messrs G. Burgess arid' v '■A'. H. Hodge (re-elected); committee, Messrs J. Fov, T. Corkill, AY- Robertson, G. Skiellerup, E. Dillon, Shaw, Haughton, and M. Squire; auditor, Mr D. G. Smart, (re-elected). Mr Champion declined to accept nomination. for the office of. secretary, hut after the matter had received \a little friendly discussion and be saw that it was the unanimous wish of the meeting that he be re-elected, he reconsidered his .decision' and was elected amidst general applause. Messrs Corkill, Adamson, and Shaw were chosen as delegates to attend the Taranaki Centre meeting at Stratford early next month. It was decided as a recommendation to the- incoming committee that the Club procure a suitable monogram for the members. A letter was received from the Eltham Club re the Haw.era Club giving its support to a remit to the Taranaki Centi’e, asking for permission to allow the South. Taranaki clubs to institute a Saturday competition. Members generally did not favour the proposition, as it would in all .probability entail a' lot of travelling. After the matter being well discussed it was decided to inform the Eltham Club that thev regret they cannot support the proposal.’ Mi- Fov proposed, and Mr Skjeljerup seconded, that it be a recommendation to the committee that they appoint a sole selector for the next season.—Carried. ' Oil the motion of Air Adamson, seconded hy Air Burgess, it was decided to entertain the lady friends of the clul.) at a social evening, and a committee was appointed to carry this out. Air Foy said he thought the meeting should express their thanks and appreciation to the “reporter” (he dij not know who he was) and the Hawera Star for- the prominence given their cluh. During the oast season we were always fully reported to date, and he had much pleasure in moving a hearty vote of thanks to those 'concerned, which was carried bv acclamation.
