SAME AND CO.’S EXHIBIT. ; The large stand occupied by' the firm of Messrs Geo. Syme and Co., Ltd., affords striking example of the progress achieved by the. firm in furniture design and construction. The. right-hano portion of the stand is devqted to the display of a five-piece bedroom . suite representing an entirely new departure in design. The' whole suite is most graceful in appearanos, and being faithfully manufactured throughout of picked heart of rimu, taken from the firm’s own forests, combines elegante with utility. While fragile in appearance, these fine examples of furniture craftsmanship embody an amazing durability and strength. The bedroom colour scheme is admirably ecectefi in harmonising tints of delicate pink and grey, and should prove of great attraction to all who visit the- show. Du the left-hand portion of the stand an assortmen t of further examples of high-class workmanship is shown. It includes a handsome oak sideboard oi a unique design, suggestive of the graceful strength embodied in the noted Sheraton style. Also to he seen if an oak china cabinet .of elegant design, a gramophone double cabinet with a bow front, and a revolving book-stand, both of which are executed in highly polished oak. The decoration scheme here is worked out in pale blue and grey, and is equally effective.
The middle portion of the stand displays a large assortment of turnery. It includes a comprehensive variety of vases, egg cups, serviette rings, cake stands, fruit bonds, and other article? of utility in various colours and devices. An imposing exhibition of hand, painted turnery, artistjc in fashionin'’ and decoration, is also presented.
The whole of the exhibits on Alessr? Syme and Co.’s stand are the products of their own factories, and the very high standard of workmanship maintained serves to establish the work of our local industries on a plane which will bear favourable comparison with the finest of impoibed articles. In all work of Messrs Syme and Co.'s designing the urgent desire to be different fit all costs has been suppressed. Thi? progressive and experienced firm of furniture manufacturers realise that the public do not identify originality with nerve-racking newness. an c l they, further realise that countless harmojiious designs, which will at the same time provide for durability, mav be executed siniplv bv meeting the needs of presentday homes in a sensible, straghtforward and practical fashion.
