FOREST TREE EXHIBIT.
COMBINED NURSERYMEN
The .Taranaki Nurserymen’s Council, together with the leading ’Wanganui nursery firms, have combined to set-up an exhibit of trees and plants suitable for forestry planting. In our opinion there Is ho exhibit in the Show of more real interest to the man on the land than this one. Samples of trees are here in large' numbers, from six inches to three feet- in height. All those varieties suitable for New Zealand planting are to be seen. -It is. claimed by the expert in charge of this stand that , trees raised in the- nurseries on this coast are niore suitable for. planting in exposed > coastal positions than trees would be that are introduced from other .districts. It is also claimed that these trees cannot be. surpassed for sturdiness, vigour, root system, and price, not even by. the State Forest Service. In comparing prices we find they are ' j ust the same a g the State Forest Service prices for similar grade stock, but settlers' here have the advantage of being able to get their trees promptly from the ; nurserymen represented here, namely, Messrs Duncan and Davies, Ltd. Morshead, Mills, and Benefield and Sons, whose nurseries are easy of access to settlers of this coast, and this will ensure the roots of theyoimg .trees: being fresh, and in the best condition for planting. What will interest visitors to the Show on this stand perhaps niore than the trees are the beautiful samples of locally grown timber, dressed and undressed, and beautifully finished joinery. It is a most interesting exhibit, and an expert is in charge to give information to all who are interested.
