(From Our Own Correspondent.) CHAMBER OF COMMERCE COUNCIL. The council of the Chamber of Commerce met last evening. The president (Mr Ira Bndger) presided. Ine members present were: Messrs Beesley, i ouirttiinOj Peters, Henty, Ccirson nncl the secretary (Mr McDonald). ' A .letter from the Minister of. Labour was received with reference to the late Closing of shops on the extra night during Cnnstmas and New Year weeks It was decided, in view of the -Minister’s suggestion, that the chambers should petition Parliament; that 'the matter be referred to the Dominion conference of chambers of commerce as a remit.
The Stratford Chamber wrote asking for support for a general demand for di art Bills to be sent to all chambers of commerce Concerning the purposed amendments to the Moratorium Act and it was decided on the motion of Messrs Beesley and Carson to support the suggestion and. to stress the importance of a- copy of all Bills affecting commerce being circulated to the chambers of commerce throughout '. New Zealand.
The nightAvatchman wrote asking the committee to grant him the fortnight’s extra pay instead of the holidays which he Avas entitled to.—The request Avas granted.
The president was appointed to interview the Phinket Society concerninoi?™r^ che V ies '' for raising funds' for the Children’s Park scheme, etc. The secretary (Mr McDonald) and the president were authorised to si<m all cheques on behalf of the chamber Accounts amounting to £7 10s were passed for payment.
