In the second round A. Watt and H. fiisher_beat Fukuda, and Harada 4—6, 6—3, <— 5, 5—7, 7—5. Mdlle. Lenglen secured her custom- 1 ary victory by defeating the American captain, Mrs Wightmnn, jn the third round 6 —L, 6—o. The Britisher Greig, in the fourth round, extended Richards in the best game of the day. Greig w’as versatile and great at passing shots, but he tired perceptibly and was beaten 6—2 4—6 63, 7—5. ’ ’ the third round, beat the British eaptqin, Mrs Covell 6—4, 7 qualifying to meet Mdlle. Leno--len. ■ f ’ . Ss who is redeeming herself in British eyes, beat Airs Edgington in the third round 6—2, 6—2. The Frenchmen, Borotra and La-cost-e, advanced to the fourth round, the former at the expense of Gordon Lowe, 6—l, 6—3, 6—4. The Americans, Norris and Williams, beat Colonel and Dudley 6—3, 6 —o, 6 4, whiie in the second round of the doubles Kingscote and Gilbert disposed of the Indians, Hadi and Rutnam 6 —4, 6—3, 6—3.
In the second round Lyeett and Godfrey beat P. Allison and K. Fairley 6—2, 6—4, 4 —6, 6—l. England fared badly in the fourth round, her two chief hones being eliminated. Lacoste defeated Gilbert 6 —3, 6 —2, while Raymond outclassed Wheatley. Only Kingscote, who beat Jacob (India) 6—3, 6—3, 6—3. is left of the prominent players. Borotra had a terrific battle in defeating Spence 6—2. 14—12, 3—6, 6—o. The Americans, Washburn- and Williams, have entered the fifth round of the doubles. In the second round, by brilliant play, Hunter and Richards defeated Brudnon and Feret 6—o, 5—7 6—l 5 6—i: In the first round Lyeett and Miss Ryan (holders) had a hard fight to beat Spence and Miss Austin 4—6, 6—4, 6 The African Raymond, heat the British Davis Cup player Wheatley 7 —5, 6 — o, 6 — o. Williams (United States) heat Richardson (South Africa) 6 —l, 6 —l, 6 —4. Both, these matches were fourth round fixtures. Washburn beat Watt 6 —o. G —3, 6 —4, 6—4. Washer defeated Brookes 6 —2, 7 —5, 6—4,
