ROWE STREET.

(To the Editor.) •Si 1 *, —ln your issue of Saturday appears a letter from Mr. L. A. Taylor, taking exception to the Borough Council giving the directors of the Winter Show .power to use and close Rowe Street during Winter Show week. I would like to point out to Mr. Taylor and others living in the vicinity of Rowe Street that had it not been for the Winter .Show committee agreeing to make certain concessions they held at that time there would never have been a Rowe Street. The persons responsible for the borough having Rowe Street are Mr. W. Rowe, the directors of the West Coast Refrigerating Company, the Winter Show Company and the Borough Council. It was by the combined efforts of these men, whose ambition was to help the town, that the street in a locality which badly needed it was provided. I would like to point out the contrast between these men, who combined together to get the street for the town, and Mr. Taylor. Practically the same men are trying by combining their effovts to make Hawera Winter Show something worthy of the town. How far would they get with their object if their vision was no broader than Mr. Taylor’s? The council realised when they gave permission to me on behalf of the Winter Show Committee, to use the street that probably some of the ratepayers might object. I made the statement at the time, and now repeat it, that I did not think any person who had the interests of the town at heart would object to the inconvenience of Rowe Street being closed for a week. I hope Mr. Taylor and any other persons who are inconvenienced through the street being closed wi'fi look at it in this spirit and sny that by putting un with this inconvenience for a week they are contributing their quota to make this year’s Winter Show a success.—l am, etc., J. R CORRIGAN, Chairman Winter Show Committee.
