. — -Ur. D. "W. Poole left Hawera on an extended visit to Auckland and Rotorua on Saturday. He will be away for about six weeks. Mr. E. R, H. Ma gnusson, of Hawera, lias been appointed accountant to the Wairnrapa Electric Power Board. Mr. C. A Smith, who has been appointed manager of the Opunake branch of the Bank; of New South M ales, has taken up duty. Mr. Smith comes from Lawrence (Otago). Mr. R. "W. Dalton, formerly senior British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, arrived at Sydney yesterday by the Niagara to take up his duties as senior British Trade Commissioner in Australia (says a cable message). The resignation of Mr. Cron, Opunake. owing to his appointment to the lieadmastership of Bulls school, was accepted with regret at a meeting of the executive of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute at Stratford on Saturday. The Hon. W. Nosworthy, Minister Agriculture, togethen with Mr. J. .W. Collins. secretary of Industries and Commerce, and Mr. Mackintosh-Ellis’, Director of Forestry, will arrive In Hawera by the mail train to-night. A well-known citizen of New Plymouth, Mrs. J. Bell Thomson, died yesterday morning after a very short illness. The late Mrs. Thomson, who had reached the age of 79 years, was bom in Scotland. She came to New Zealand as a girl with her parents, who settled near Invercargill, where she met and married the late Inspector Thomson, who was connected with the police force and was for many years stationed at New Plymouth A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. G. Easton, of Hawera, was passed at the meeting of the North Taranaki branch of. the South African War Veterans’ Association on Saturday. The president (Mr. L. de Launav) said that Mr Easton was president of the South Taranaki branch of the association, and was one of the most energetic members of the association in Taranaki. —News. Mr D. H. Butcher, who has been Customs examining officer at New Plymouth for several years, has received notice of his transfer to Wellington in a similar position, and leaves for his new home in the course of a week or so.

At the annual meeting of the Tarurutangi Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., on Saturday, very appreciative reference was made to the sterling qualities of the late manager of the factory, Mr. W. Hibberd, and it was resolved to grant Mrs. Hibberd a bonus of £3O, including two weeks’ holiday allowance which was due to Mr. Hibberd at the time of his death. Reference was also made to the death of Mr. Thomas Giddy, who was one of the promoters of the which has now been in operation for about 26 years, and it was decided to forward a letter of condolence to Mrs. Giddv.—News.
