WAR ON SOCIALISM.
NATIONAL CAMPAIGN. An appeal for funds for a national campaign to combat ‘ Socialism (says the London Daily Telegraph) is issued by the Central Council of Economic Leagues, Westminster, S.W., with which are associated, among other V bodies. National Propaganda, British Empire Union, and National Citizens’ Union. The- principal organisations opposed to Socialism, the appeal mentions, have agreed to affiliate, thereby avoiding overlapping, with consequent - waste of time, nroxrev, and energv. At least £IOO,OOO is required at once, guaranteed, if possible, for at least three years. Among the ways by which war will be carried into the enemy’s camp are: Arranging debates, outdoor and indoor meetings in public halls, and addresses at working men’s clubs; distribution, of special leaflets and pamphlets; preparation of special films and arranging for short addresses at cinemas; advertisements in principal London and provincial press; forming branches in every town and village, and enrolling active workers, who would all the .year round be engaged in educating their fellow-citizens on the menace of Socialism, and in rousing them to take a more active part in local and national affairs; formation of study circles in every c-ity and town, where weekly lectures on topical subjects could be given by experts, and questions invited: foundation of a labour college for the training of workers to counteract the activities of the revolutionary colleges and correspondence classes; establishment of research department for supplying information to speakers and members to counteract that of the Labour Research Department: articles and notes giving up-to-date information ; distribution daily of notes for speakers, supplying them with current data and facts against Socialism; training outdoor speakers; and organisation of special campaigns against nationalisation, capital low, and other* proposals of the Socialists.'
Signatories to ibe appeal include laud Tnvernairii, Lord Gainford, Sir Alan J. Sykes, Bt.. Sir Allan M. Smith. Sir Vincent Caillard, and Mr Evan Williams.
