HAWERA BOXING ASSOCIATION
The committee of the above association met on Tuesday evening, and decided to put on another tournament on lhmsday, July 31, to give t-heir patrons an opportunity of seeing some of the best amateurs competing. The committee aie to be congratulated in matching ror the star bout of the evening NeLson Mclvmgiit, of Hamilton, and Arthur Duggan, of Hawera. These boys are in the front rank of amateur welters, AlcKnight having a lot of wins to his credit since being last in Hawera. Duggan also has not been defeated for quite a long time, so the followers of the game will have a, hard job to sort out tne winner. The match committee are busily engaged in arranging other firstclass bouts, for the respective classes, and this tournament bids lair to enhance the reputation the Hawera Association have established for putting on first-class contests, and also for the"efficient- organisation oi their tournaments. It is gratifying to know that the Wellington Centre highly commended the Hawera Association, on the management and inception of the first- Taranaki v. Wellington shield competition, and it is to be hoped that the public will roll up and suoport- this live association.
It is also to be' noted that the first annual centre ehampionshins (Wellington Centre) are to take place in Wanganui on July 18 and 19, all entries to be made by the local associations. All contestants must be registered through their local secretary. Intending competitors are requetsed to see the Rawer a. secretary (Mr Fred W. Stevens) at once. The winners in each class will represent the Wellington Centre at the New Zealand championships to be held in August at Wellington.
