VICTORIAN ELECTIONS.
—- GOVERNMENT DEFEATED. ‘ STATE OF PARTIES. SY CABLX —PItBSS ASSOCIATION—COPYHIGHT Received June 27. 10.35 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 27. Progress returns of the polling show the state of the parties to be as follows : Labour 26 Nationalists 20 Country Party 13 Independents .....*> 6 Many returns are still incomplete. On the present figures-Labour has gained four seats, with the possibility of gaining seven. The six Independents elected include five break-away Liberals, so that the Government apparently lost eleven seats though there is a possibility of the position altering somewhat. The Country Party looks like losing one seat to Labour. All Ministers and other party leaders seem safe. The Premier declined to comment on the situation, but in face of the fact that as things stand the Government can count on only a score of direct supporters compared with thirtv in the last Parliament, it is considered that it will probably resign.—Aus.-N.Z.
