AUROA.

FARMERS’ UNION BALL. A happy throng of approximately two hundred dancers attended the Auroa Farmers’ Union annual bait, which was held on Wednesday evening. Owing to the excellence of .the arrangements effected by the ladies’ committee, headed by Airs. R. Lyndon, in conjunction with the men’s committee under the direction of the president (Mr. R Lyndon) and the hon. secretary (Air. J. C. Duff), the function achieved an outstanding social success and worthily maintained the popular reputation it has gained in previous years. The ballroom was tastefully decorated overhead with gaily coloured butterfly streamers suspended from the ceiling in long, graceful droops An added artistry was effected with the arrangement of a number of Cell-shaped clusters of similar hues, and the sparkling colours overhead were thrown into pleasing relief by the quieter tone of the masses of greenery adorning the walls. A similar scheme was adopted in the supper-room, the tables being also decorated with a harmonising variety of natural and artificial flowers. The whole display was exceedingly attractive and was the subject of much favourable comment. the music and dancing time rendered by Evans’ Oeo orchestra of seven instruments was excellent, and enabled the full enjoyment of the well-balanced programme arranged by the M.C.’s, Messrs J. Hartley, J. Deegnn D. Barlow, F. Barlow, T. Ross, anti E. Armstrong. who gave efficient attention to their duties, while the edibles provided' by the supper committee were commended by even the most exacting of the numerous guests. A considerable quantity of the supper confections were left ovpr. and arrangements were made to entertain the children at a party to he field on the following day.
