MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Members of St. Cuthbert’s Church and friends met together at the supperroom of the Town Hall, Manaia, to extend a hearty welcome home to Mr. and Mrs. C. ■ Abbott, who have just returned from their honeymoon tour. The couple were the recipients of many useful presents. The evening was spent in dancing, music games, and songs rendered by Mrs. ’ ('. Abbott. Messrs W. McDonald, B. Uadi and. Forester, and Gardiner. Capital music was provided by Miss M Long, who also played the accompaniments, and Mr. Collier, who assisted. A very pleasant evening broke up at midnight. On Monday evening, June 23, a farewell social gathering .was given by Mr. and Mrs. G. Cowling, Manaia Hoad, at their residence to Mr. and Mrs. L. Fetch. iunr., who are leaving Manaia to take up business at Midhirst. There was a large gathering of settlers and friends present.' The large dining room which was used for the party looked lovely decorated with flowers and ferns. Numerous games and musical items were given during the evening, and solos by Messrs G. Cowling and D. .Broomfield. A very nice supper was provided by Air. and Mrs. G Cowling. Mr. Cowling, on behalf of all present, wished the guests of the evening every success in their new venture, and stated that they were all very sorry to lose Mr. and Airs. Fetch, who were goo c j citizens and neighbours The gathering .broke np at midnight.
