FALSE INCOME TAN RETURNS. A BUTCHER’S PROFITS. (by TELEGRAPH- —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 25. At the Magistrate’s Court to-clay Alfred William Grimmer, a butcher, was convicted of making false income tax returns for four years. He was fined a. total of £2OO and costs. The magistrate said ‘the defendant’s profits for the four years amounted to £16,000, but he had stated in the income tax return .that it was £6BOO. Therefore' it followed that for the period of four years defendant had defrauded the country of a considerable amount of revenue.
