WAVERLEY.
(From a Correspondent.) Last Wednesday a kitchen, evening given by friends of Miss May Grahtham, who is shortly to be married uas held in the supper room of the town Hali, about 80 guests being present. Mr G. Hunter spoke on behalf of those present, wishing Miss Grantham happiness, and asked her to open the many gifts and read quotations accompanying each one. Mr Linn (bridegroom-elect), in a neat little speech, thanked all present for their good wishes and useful articles. Dancmg, singing and competitions were inr t * n V ntil p.m. The singing of For they are jolly good fellows” and “Auld Lang Syne” brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. The Second (Queen Alexandra’s) A-Z. Afounted Rifles are in camp at the W averley racecourse for six days’ continuous training. The camp was pitched on Monday, and all ranks succeeded in getting under canvas before qco '- er There are about >450 of iru ranks in camp. The arrangements are excellent, and everything possible has been provided for the comfort and welfare of the troops. Although the weather conditions have not been the best, yet the health of the troops is excellent, and there are no cases of sickness in camp. The racecom so authorities' have generously placed the use of their buildings at the disposal of the camp authorities, and so training can be carried on in spite of the rain. The camp chaplain, l adre C. ,T. Rush King (who was on active service for over four years) and the Y.M.C.A. (Mr McEldownev) are pi ovidmg for the recreation and entertainment of the men each evening, and the Regimental Band provides music both during the dav and in the evening.
