SQUADRON AT BRITISH COLUMBIA. ‘ BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received June 25, 9 a.m. YlCiußlA (Br. Columbia), June 24. Vice-Admiral Field was the principal speaker at a public luncheon given in honour of the squadron. He emphasised the increasing importance of the Canadian Navy as a result of the country’s growing sea commerce and the expansion of Asiatic countries. He disowned intentions to interfere with Canada’s affairs, but personally he believed that Canada should equip and maintain four cruisers, two be be held on the Pacific Coast and two on the: Atlantic.
A representative oh the Navy League assured Vice-Admiral Field of the rapidly-developing interest, even in the interior provinces of Canada, on the naval question. The idea, of a Canadian navy was becoming more popular. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. f
