FRANK TALK
MACDONALD AND HERRIOT. A GOOD BEGINNING. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, June 23. The conference between Mr. Ramsay MacDonald (British and M. Herriot (the new French Premier) resulted in a distinct advance in AngloFrench relations. It is understood the talk was very frank. Both desired a personal understanding, and this was obtained without either conceding any vital point. As M. Herriot was leaving Chequers Mr. MacDonald, cordially shaking his hand, said: “Our work is only the beginning.” M. Herriot replied': “But we have begun well.” Newspapers comment with satisfaction on the evident good feeling engendered by the conference and express the happiest hopes regarding the consequences of the meeting.
