A STORMY PUBLIC MEETING. MURDER OF DEPUTY. SOCIALISTS INCENSED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON. June 23. The murder of the Italian deputy. Signor Alatteotti, is arousing the ire of Socialists all over Europe. At Geneva there was a stormy public meeting oT protest, at which 2000 attended, including labour conference delegates representing Britain, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. An allusion was made to. the Fascist regime, and the suteches provoked cries of “assassins,” “bandits,” and a tumult accompanied by the expression-: “To the guillotine.” Finally the meeting carried a resolution demanding the freedom of the Italian workers. At Paris disorderly scenes followed a Communist meeting of protest, including many Italians. When the meeting concluded the participants encountered a procession of , local society bands playing, which they mistook for a counter-demonstration. A free fight ensued, and the police intervened. The fighting became fierce, casualties being inflicted on both political parties before the police cleared the streets. ROME, June 22. Rossi, who was wonted in connection with the murder of Signor Matteotti, a deputy, has surrendered to the police. Fillipelli and MarineUi, examined by the Magistrate, contended that the instructions were exceeded. They ordered that Matteotti be kidnapped, not murdered. Police efforts to find Matteotti’s'body are still futile.
