(From Our Own Correspondent.) FRIDAY’S FAREWELL FUNCTION. % farewell social and presentation to Mr 1. Mc-Phillips and familv is to be held in the Mamba Town Mall on hi in ay night. The ladies’ committee, general committee and sub-corn-mittees reported tint overvtliing is well j,, hand. Mr. T. McPhiilins, who has taken a keen interest in the welfare of .Manaia and district, will be much missed. He was always to the front in public affairs, especially during the Great Mar. At the faiewells to the men leaving Manaia Mr McPhillips was always there, and in his iarewell address to the soldiers congratulated them on going to fight for justice and freedom. Being chairman ol the Patriotic Society, he always gave a load in arranging a fitting farewell to the hoys, and on their return welcomed thorn home again. Ho was always assisted at the function by Mrs -M <'Philljps and family, who gave their valuable assistance at every function hold in the Manaia Town for any worthy cause. Their hosnitality was well known, and all who visited their home were well, treated. M r McPiiib lips hedd the important position of chairman of the M aimate County Council. tor 13 years. He also held the position of cliairman of Kaupokonui Dairy Company. No doubt there will be- a lug attendance at the farewell. There will ho representatives of local bodies and dairy companies from all parts of Taranaki present. CONY ENT QUEEN CARNIVAL. The dance in aid of the Manaia. Convent Town queen held a.t Inaha last Monday night was a great- success. and a very enjoyable evening was supplied by Mrs Price, Miss Hillies, Miss Long, Mr Lloyd, Mr and Mi's Stewart (songs and monologues). Mr H. Summers, J. Hoddinott, and Mr Steffert. The duties of M.C. was ahl.v carried out by Mr V. Baird. The Town, queen committee returned thanks to the Inaha committee and secretaries for their kind assistance. HIBERNIA:? SPORTS CLUB. A general meeting of the Manaia Hibernian Sports Club Committee was held last week in the Town Hall. A good deal of business was done during the evening. Mr J. Landers presided, ft was decided to hold a smoke concert in the Town Hall on 'Wednesday, duly 9. Notice will appear at a later date in the Star.
