The Metagama’s passengers tell a story of wonderful seamanship. Cabins were stove in, but fortunately the occupants were at breakfast. The passengers rushed on deck as the craft was sent reeling by a-‘heavy blow on the starboard side. The captain immediately Hooded the porf’ ballast tanks, listing the ship over so as to raise the gaping hole, on the starboard out of the water. The passengers behaved splendidly, a mess boy playing the bagpipes as the ship heeled over at a dangerous angle. The captain’s prompt action saved the vessel from foundering.—Sydney Sun Cable.
