AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS. NEW ZEALANDER’S SUCCESS. LONDON. June 20. At the athletic championships at Stamford Bridge, A. S. Porritt, a New Zealander, starts in the final of the 220 yards. He won his two heats in a dashing manner. He meets the South African, Kinsiman, and the Scotchman, Liddell. Results of the chief events at the amateur athletic championship meeting at Stamford Bridge are: 22!) Yards.—Final: Kinsiman (member of the South African Olympic team) 1. Liddell (Edinburgh Club, holder of 1 lie Australian record) 2. Porritt (Oxford and N'ew Zealand) 2. Y\ on by two and a half yards, inches separating the others. Time, 21 7-10 sec. J’orrilt appeared to heal Liddell for second place in the 220 yards, but the judges decided in Liddell’s favour. Pole Jump.—The Australian. D. Sumner (Oxford) and J. Campbell (Cambridge) tied with 10 feet. In the jump off Sumner won. clearing 10 feet. Campbell failing. Abrahams (Onmbiidsie T’niversity) won the 100 yards. Tie was not extended. Time! f) 9-lf)sec.
