CORRESPONDENCE
THE PATEA MEAT WORKS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, In the correspondence under the above heading you are certainly to lie commended tor your impartiality in dealing with such correspondence, especialiy after having voiced the opinion of the Star on the subject in your leading article of the 22iid nit. it- is rather disappointing that “Cow Cookie” 3 i , ! Tease have not seen fit to reply. This must, of course, be taken as admission of defeat. There is one point, however, which so far has been overlooked, ancl'l was hopeful that perhaps i\lr Pease would have- explained had he written again, and that is the number of shares which of necessity must be held by a shareholder before he would he eligible for nomination as a director of the company. At. present it is stated that no one with less than one hundred shares would he eligible lor such a position. The dairy farmers are asked to take up a share for every 1000-lbs of butter-fat- supplied in one season, and there are very few dairy farmers whose supply would warrant their taking up anything like the amount required to qualify them for tue posit-mu of a director. This means, of c-oprse, with the exception of one o-r two- men in the position of Air Corrigan, whom we can hardly term dairy farmers in the generally accepted meaning of the term, that the small farmer would be completely in the background and a nonentity -as soon as he has paid his share capital. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., IGNORANT COAY CQCKTB.
