The House of Assembly consists of 135 members, chosen in four electoral divisions, as follows: Cap.e of Good Hope, 51; Natal, 17; Transvaal, 50; Orange Free State, 17. The state of parties when the Government was formed was: South African Party, 74; Nationalists, 47; Labour, 12; Independent, 1. Several by-elec-tions since have reduced the Government’s majority to eight.
