Mr G. McNamara, actmg-seerotarv for the Tost and Telegraph Department, and Mr ShrimptOu, chief electrical, engineer, wore in Hawera last night. They left this morning for Stratford to attend the opening ceremony of the new Stratford Post Office. James Michael Simeon, a third offender for drunkenness within the last six months, appealed before Mr J. G. Osborne, J.P., this morning, and was convicted and fined £2 in default seven days’ imprisonment. A cable message from Pekin announces the death of Mr Frank Carpenter, the well-known American traveller and author, at Nankin.
