COWBOY CONTESTS.
CONTINUED IN PRIVATE. Received June 19, 12.5 p.m. LONDON, June 19. The private steer roping contests were continued at Wembley. A galloping steer, when roped, turned a somersault, broke his neck, and died instantly. The police and representatives of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were present and a number of Commoners. Others asked for permission to watch the contests, hut in view of the pending police court, proceedings, permission so far has been refused. The Duchess of Hamilton and the Marchioness of Graham, noted sportswomen, were amongst the early morning spectators, and were most impressed by the style of the cowboys, but refused to discuss incidents which are causing So much com men t. —Reuter.
