The Daily Chronicle states that a romantic claim on the Angell Benedict estate in South London, valued at £60,000,000 sterling, is being made on behalf of William Allery, an 80-year-old tailor. Allery’s agent states that he has obtained the highest legal opinion, which supports his claim. A fund of £SOOO is being raised to defray costs of the application. Subscribers are promised a return of 1000 per cent on their contributions in the event of the claim being successful. [The subject of the Angell millions has occupied a good deal. of space in New Zealand newspapers during recent months, owing to a number of people claiming a right to the property.]
