ASCHE’S FAREWELL
GRIEVANCE VENTILATED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. MELBOURNE, June 17. There was a remarkable scene at Oscar Asche’s farewell appearance. Immediately the last lines had been spoken the certain was dropped and the National Anthem was played. The exit doors onened, but the audience sat unmoved. The orchestra commenced another number, and then Sir Asche stepped on to the stage, accompanied by Miss Champion, Mr Asche pointed to the orchestra and said: “They will not let .me speak.” Miss Champion jumped into the orchestra and snatched the baton from the conductor’s hand. Air Asche'then made a speech, referring to the relations of the management.
fc>ir George Tallis subsequentlv informed the press- that the Asche season had resulted in heavy losses to his firm, and the settlement of certain ™ aim * s was P endin g. He regretted that Mr Asche had attempted to ventilate his grievances before the curtain.
