TOWN BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING. Thei monthly meeting of the Kaponga Town Board was held last evening. There were present: Commissioners W. G. Cran (chair), L. Shepherd, C. E. Betts, R. Law, J. Dawson, and Messrs. G. P. Cook (clerk) and A. Ef. Moss (electrical engineer). REPORTS Works Committee.—The report and recommendations of the Works Committee as follow were adopted : —The following sundry works to receive immediate attention: The completion of the water-tabling in Kuri Street to the western stock route; the repairing with pit metal of the pot-Jioles on the east side of the Upper Manaia Road between the Grand Central Hotel and Mr. C. E.. Betts’ garage; the repairing as above of pot-holes on the side of the tarred surface of the Eltham Road, east of the Town Hall; the permanent work of the month to be the continuation of the work on the Eltham Road east as detailed in last month’s report. The committee further recommend that at the Catholic Church and the Victoria. Park cars be parked on one side of the road only, namely, the north side, notices to that effect being erected, the foreman to lay along that side of the road a sufficiency of pit metal to give a reasonably dry stand. It is suggested that spoil for the proposed cycle track might be obtained from the" widening of the roadway into the cemetery. Electrical Engineer.—The electrical engineer’s report, as follows, was adopted: The whole of the load has been taken by the No. 1 plant during the month. A heavy fresh occurred in the river on the 7th inst., registering higher in the old dam than any for three years past. This flowed over the new dam to a height of 20 inches. It furnished all the testing necessary in that respect, the dam being designed to take another 12 inches. " The repair work on the pipe line 'was sufficiently advanced on the 11th inst.,'and I gave an initial testing. ■ The pressure applied was 39ft static head, and 42ft head is all the pipe will ever be called to carry. lam pleased to report that the new reinforced portion and also the old portion above tlie repair work stood the test. A number of blowholes in the old work were located for stopping. The patch below the fireplug that we did not cover with new reinforcing opened under the pressure to aii appreciable extent causing a flow of water, but not reducing the pressure. We have covered this now with reinforced‘ ishell. The line to Awatuna. has been erected. A transformer has been procured and will be erected this week. Sctional fuses are being erected in numbers so that any line faults can be confined to as limited an area as possible. An inspection of all. insulators is now being made Several quotations for i>.C. stand-by plant are to hand, and I. suggest the electric committee take into consideration this question of a relieving stand-by for the DC generator.

No immediate action regarding the relieving stand-by for the DC venerator was decided upon, the matter being left m the engineer’s hands for the time being. ,i 5‘° 11 licet ion with the repairs to the pipe line authorised at the last meeting of the board, the engineer further reported that the work was now practically completed, the whole costs out of the board s current revenue. , STRAYING STOCK. Arising from complaints made, -a discussion took place with reference to iRt-oelc wandering at large within the town area, it being decided to instruct *hf S." to ™ slric ‘ att ™ tion to footpaths. In connection with the previously discussed work of kerbing and channelling within the town area, the clerk intimated that from opinions received from prospective contractors, it appeared that if the work were de. ‘ i h u f ,,lg or s ™mer Kt 1 / should be possible to have it effected more cheaply than if it were undertaken immediately. The quesW °/ n ™ media te finance would also nave to be considered. The hoard eW • a r T ly carryill S housing and electric .schemes to completion, and it appeared inadvisable, in view of the difficulty of getting money from the Advances Department at present to commit the hoard to further loan ex! penditure until the work now in hand was approaching completion.—lt wa* decided to defer the kerbing and channelling work for the present

general. The fire inspector again drew the boards attention to the necessity for providing, for use in case of fife a better means of exit from the opSut* mg box in the Triwn Hall.—The clerk ;?wi d / hat were being obtained for putting in a doorway 8 givstfeet aWeSS fr ° m the box *> the The clerk was instructed to accent the lowest tender received for the erec Tonkin a behalf of Mr. C. one to be erected out of Vtal-dN lo?» of fSOOO. the advance! to i pheants averaging £B3O P ' KapVf P '“Wr” r< 'cS l fl ° m V" penriiaaion .“fcjrTff mission when matches are played on the park grounds was granted for A p?rmtn t tot "" i, ’ g ***>
