PARTLY FOREIGN.
GOODS CLASSED AS BRITISH. TARIFFS TO BE INCREASED. (by TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, June 17. Mr Massey intends, when Parliament meets, to submit a proposal for an increase above the present rate of a 25 per cent, proportion of British manufacture in goods before they may become entitled as far as New Zealand is concerned, to preferential tariff. Mr Massey says he is aware that the existing rate had been decided on as an Empire policy, but there was no reason why New Zealand should not take a lead in improving the position of British manufacturers.
