Mi- T. C. Gormley is oaying a short visit to Hawera.
It is understood that General Sir Alexander Godley, K.C.8.. K.C.M.G., General Officer ICommanding-in-Chief of the British army on the Rhine will shortly return to England, and that he will be succeeded by Lieut.-General Sir John Du Cane, K.C.B. At the meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board it was reported that the good wishes for success had been sent to Miss J. H. Robertson, who resigned to take up a career in nursing. As an earnest of their appreciation, the Board decided unanimously to give her a month’s leave on full nay.. All agreed that she had excellent work during the five years she had been on the staff.
The Manaia popular postmaster, Mr Collier, who is retiring from the post office after 40 years’ service at the end of the present year, will take his final holiday leave of six months at the end of the present month. Mr Collier, since being appointed postmaster at Manaia about eight years ago. has (writes our correspondent) been very obliging and courteous, and was very popular with the citizens of Manaia and district. Mrs Collier will also be much missed from Manaia. She always gave her valuable services at functions held in the Town Hall in connection wjth any worthy object. She was also a keen worker in church matters. Mr Eric Collier, son of Mr and Mrs Collier, has received notice of his transfer from Manaia Bank of New Zealand to Auckland. It is the intention of Mr and Mrs Collier and family to reside m Auckland.
The following Taranaki students attending the University of Otago were successful at the recent medical examinations conducted bv the New Zea land University: A. B. Sturtevant (pathology and bacteriology in the second professional examination), N. Quit liam (materia medica. and pathology), A. R. Mowlem and N. Waddle (first section of the third professional examination), and B. M. Johns (preventive medicine and applied anatnrudence).
At the New Plymouth High School yesterday afternoon Mr Ti. W. Brown, last year’s captain of the. school’s first fifteen, who has been chosen to represent New Zealand in the All Blacks, was given an enthusiastic reception by the boys, with whom he is exceedingly popular, and who are delighted at the honour conferred on the school by having one of last year’s hoys chosen as an All Black. On behalf of the school Mr. W. FT. Moves (the principal) presented Mr. Brown with a travelling rug.—Nows. "
