THEN WANTED IT BACK. RUSSIAN WITH A GUN. SYDNEY, June 5. A senastiojial incident occurred at the Taxation Offices, Sydney, last Saturday, when a Russian, who had paid his tax on Friday, entered the office, and, at revolver point, demanded the money back. He walked into the office at 11 a.m. and scrutinised the line of receivers, eventually identifying the man to whom he had'paid the money the day before.
Producing a,revo!ver, he said: “Give me back the mousy 1 paid you yesterday.” The clerk refused, and' other persons who were in the room dashed outside for safety, for the Russian adopted a threatening attitude. Ills clerk, Ralph Francis Tate, engaged the man in argument, and in the meantime another clerk ran out and called v. policeman. He rushed the Russian and eventually overpowered him.
As a result, Amurchan Biciveff, 27, was 'presented at the Central Police Court on a charge of dem inning by menaces and threats the s'an of £lO from Tate, and with having an unlicensed revolver in his possession. The Police Prosecutor pressed for substantial bail, stating that the police alleged that Bicayeff had booked a passage to Japan. Finding, after he paid his tax, that he had not sufficient money he decided to get.it back at the point of the gun. Bicayeff. who gave evidence through an interpreter, seemed to find it difficult- to understand why iic cord not be released. He argued that he had not done anything, and wanted to be allowed to sail for Japan on 'Wednesday. He was remanded on £BO bail.
