NORMANBY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RETURNED SOLDIERS’ BALL. It is doubtful if ever in its history the Town Hall has been taxed to the same extent as it was on the occasion of the above ball, over 150 couples being present. The committee, who had worked hard, had the floor in splendid order, and the hall, which was tastefully decorated with, greenery and bunting and coloured lights, had a pleasing effect. A word of praise must be accorded to those ladies who had charge of the supper arrangements for the bounteous spread which they provided. The music was a feature of the. evening, being supplied by Renwiek’s orchestra. The duties of M.C. were ably carried out by Messrs F. Palmer, J. Linn, N. Linn and J. Taylor. Dancing was kept going till the early hours of the morning. The committee are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts. The 1924 ball must be classed as one of the most successful held here. POULTRY BREEDERS’ SUCCESSES. South Taranaki poultry fanciers were well represented at the New Plymouth Show. Messrs G. Kent, W. Moore, V. Warner secured prizes in the Minorca classes; Mr W. Stemring won in the bantam classes, and also secured a. special prize for black rosecomb hen. Mr Don Stewart won 11 firsts, 6 seconds, and 3 thirds, with 22 entries, also special. prize for best duck or drake in the show, and North Island championship for Indian Runner clucks, beating ducks recently imported from England.
