SOCCER.

It is a pity (writes a correspondent) that Hawera Juniors cannot get more games, as they have the makings of a line team if only they could get against other teams and acquire combination. AVanganui Y.M.C.A. Juniors have matches pretty well every Saturday, anrl their combination compels one to look forward a few years and speculate on the progress of Soccer. The same could apply here in Taranaki, if only the other clubs controlled by the T.E.A. would do their utmost to raise junior teams. While in AVanganui the- Hawera boys were well entertained by members of the Y.M.C.A., and the whole day was a thoroughly enjoyable one. The question of expeditiong the play on any day when a course is pretty full has been occupying the minds of many | clubs in different parts, and Various suggestions have been made. But one suggestion that might be made is that " hen conditions are as stated, any pairs should endeavour to get away early and so lead the held, for if they start after fours and perhaps threes, there is always delay as they go through. In some clubs .members are at times urged to play foursomes instead of four-ball matches, but the latter are generally the more popular here. However, it is actually not often, unfortunately, that any overcrowding occurs. AYhen it does, perhaps pairs will act on the suggestion. The question of replacement of turf is more important than ever when conditions are wet. Members are all urged to nay special attention to this unwritten but oft-printed rule.
