DIVERSITY OF SUBJECTS. DEHORNING CATTLE.
(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, June 12. At the farmers’- conference resolutions were carried urging more assistance to maternity homes and nurses for outlying districts; and that the Government be urged to bring in legislation facilitating the collection of rates due on native lands.
Daylight saving was considered against the best interests of faripers, and as leading to a further increase in the drift from 1 country to towns, and a motion opposing it was carried. The subject of dehorning cattle was keenly discussed when a remit came up recommending to all A. and P. Societies to discontinue to give points for horns on cattle exhibited, and that they recommend that all cattle he dehorned, particularly bulls. The remit was withdrawn]. It was resolved to urge the Government to plant pinus insignus and other suitable timber on waste lands. The conference also adopted a. remit urging the Government to establish a course in veterinary science at the New Zealand University, thus enabling them to obtain training and a diploma.
