CHURCH OF CHRIST.

RACING AND LIQUOR. (B¥ TELEGRAPH-— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, June 12. The Dominion executive of the Council of the Churches of Christ met here. Representatives were present from every area. A. resolution was carried that this committee of representatives of the Associated Churches of Christ enters its emphatic protest against any further racing permits being granted, and calls upon the Government to enforce the law against bookmakers, and farther asks that an early opportunity be given to the people to veto the totalisator, and a resolution was also- passed against the corporate control nroposition which is being circulated in' the interests of the liquor trade, and declares that : (1) Corporate control would be entirely unacceptable as a solution of the p-rob-le±n of the liquor traffic. (2) If corporate control should become operative it would be the means of more securely shackling the liquor traffic upon the community without giving an assurance of any abatement of its evils. (3) There has -not yet been taken in New Zealand an equal and unequivocal vote on the continuance of the liquor traffic, in that temperance reform has always been handicapped by either an artificial majority or a three-issue ballot paper. (4) That provision should be made for a two-issue ballot paper for use at the next licensing poll, and the members of Parliament representing electorates within the area are hereby urged to use their best endeavours to secure this measure of justice. It is further resolved that copies of these resolutions be sent to the Prime Minister, Mr Wilford and Mr Holland.
