W ELLINGTON, June 12. ,A sub-committee appointed by the University Senate decided to nominate the following for the award of two scholarships by the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, and the New Zealand Government: H. L. Richardson, jVLSc., Victoria University College, and H. O'. Askew, M.Sc >3 Canterbury College. The nominations have been forwarded by cable, and a reply is expected in a few" clays. MOULDERS’ DISPUTE. WELLINGTON, June 12. The moulders’ dispute, on a Dominion basis, came before the Conciliation Council to-day. As was the case in the engineers’ dispute yesterday, the employers stood firm for a forty-seven hour week. Negotiations were broken off and the whole dispute referred to the Arbitration Court. THE FRUITGROWERS. WELLINGTON, June 12. The Fruitgrower’ Conference adopted the Izard motion in the following form: That the portion of the Fruit Control Bill dealing with local control apply only to pip fruit, with the proviso that in future any district may by a majority vote of the growers of any variety of fruit have the right of voting control over that variety. It was also agreed that this conference recommends 1 and urges on the Government the necessity of bringing into operation a local Fruit Control Act, with a proviso that local control will apply only to pip fruit until such time as control is asked for by a majority vote of the growers of any other class of fruit. “ COALMINERS IDLE. WELLINGTON. June 11. The Greymouth State Mine is idle today in the Rewanui section, owing to a dispute regarding a shiftman’s alleged abusive language to a lamp cleaner and underviewer. ICO men are idle. The Department proposes a prosecution . TRADE WITH THE EAST. AUCKLAND, June 12. ’The delegates to the annual conference of the Industrial Corporations of New Zealand were accorded a civic welcome in the Town Hall this morning by Mr. Baildon, deputy magistrate. On the motion of Air. Jenkinson (Christchurch), the conference agreed that a deputation wait on the Premier and emphasise the importance of trade with the East, and urge him to assist in promoting a mission representing the various interests, the delegate agreeing to recommend the various associations to subscribe the travelling expenses of a manufacturers’ representative to he appointed by the industrial corporation.
