“OHIO” PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

DISPERSAL sale

MR. A. H. GUY’S HERD,

The whole of the “Ohio” pedigree Jersey herd, owned by Mr A. H. Guy. of Mangatoki, was sotd by auction yesterday at the homestead rarm. Mr Guy’s herd has rightly, been classed as one of the foremost and best-producing of our Jersey herds, and striding eviuence e. : its notability was afforded by the large attendance yesterday, when the accommodation offered oy a b : g marquee was taxed to its utmost capacity. Despite the fact that.it was the niiv:h in the series of sales which have Lemi held in Taranaki during the past ten days, competition fur many of the lols was very keen and prices maintained a good average. This was especially so with the females, but the hulls, though of the same high standing strains, were not so much in demand, ~and the comparatively poor prices realised for the miter greatly lectuced the total average.

The top price for the day was leallsed on Lady Bessie (Maori Chief—Campanile’s Nancy), the noted dam of six C.O.R. daughters, and possessor of a record of 7041bs of fat, which Mr John Hale, the well-known New Plymouth breeder of pure-breds, purchased for 205 guineas. Second on the list was Ohio’s Bilberry (Belvedere Bilberry’s Last—Bilberry’s View), showing the K.C’.B. and Monopoly strain, the buyer being Mr W. H. Jakins, Christchuieh, at 150 guineas. The herd sire, Belvedere Bilberry’s Last (K.C.B.—Bilberry 3rd) was knocked down to Mr W. 1. Williams, who secured this, the first of the day’s for 100 guineas. Of the 79 offerings none were withdrawn, the sale being absolutely without reserve. The total realised was 3013£ guineas, showing an approximate total average of 40 guineas. Thirtytwo cows, however, averaged 58 guineas, while thirteen 2-year-old heifers averaged 30 guineas, and eight heifers aged from 6 to 10 months, averaged 42 guineas. The twenty-six bulls, thirteen of which were under 10 months of age, averaged 17 guineas. The auctioneers also offered, oe behalf of Air W. A. Guy, seven pedigree bulls of good breeding, three of which, were sold, the remainder being passed. The sale was conducted by Messrs Newton King, Ltd., and Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., in conjunction, Mr C. Williams wielding the hammer fob the former and Mr J. C. Board for the latter. Mr C. Robertson, sales manager for Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., wa< aiso present/. Details of the purchases are os follow :
