Killed by a Blow.
AFFRAY IN A DRINKING SALOON. PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, July 2 ' As the result of an affray in the Waitemata Hotel to-night, a middleaged man named John Mason Price was killed. Price, who is stated to have been a cook at the Lake Hotel, Takapuna, is said tohavebeen standing in the bar by himself, perfectly sober, when another man came in, but whether by himself or not no one seems to know, as the bar was crowded at the time. He was, however, heard to say to Price, " You cadger." Price replied, " You withdraw that remark." Apparently the other man would not, for Price went to him. At this stage, another man standing at the side of Price is alleged to have struck the latter a heavy blow on the jaw. Price- falling with a thud. Immediately all was confusion, and in the commotion the assailant and the other man escapedPrice was picked up. but was found to be dead. Price was 42 years of age, and his assailant is said to have been a big burly man.
SUSPECT ARRESTED. Auckland, Tuly 2 At I o'clock this morning the police arrested a man named Charles Tucker in connection with the affray in the Waitemata Hotel which resulted in the death of J. M- Price. Tucker, when arrested, was about to enter his residence in a side street off Newton road. Charles Tucker appeared at the Police (xmrt charged with murder in connection with the Waitemata Hotel brawl. He pleaded not guilty, and was remanded for eight days. Accused is a big man, 6ft ia height, and about 28 years age-
