TO-DAY'S JUDGING.

The Manawatu Spring Show was ■formally opened by Lord Plunket at noon to-day. His Excellency was accompanied by Lady Plunket, and there was also present a strong contingent of members of Parliament, mho arrived by the express from Wellington. The weather was beautifully fine to-day and the attendance already is very large. The minor classes were all judged yesterday, and to-day all live stock and dogs are being judged^ None of the classes are completed yet, but the principal winners so far Shorthorns: A. W. Williams (Hawke's Bay), scooped the pool taking six firsts, and two champion- * Hereford: G. F Moore (WangaTiui). was the principal prize taker. He was closely followed, however, byG. Wheeler {Halcombe,. A.J. Stonewigg (Wairarapa). was awarded afirst and second. Ayreshire-Classes: Slack Bros (Palmerston) took three firsts and a champion, W. B. Harre iFcildmg) a champion, and for reserve champion card E. Eagle, P- Noonan, J. A. McReay, C. Clarke and S. R. Lancaster divided honours. Judging in the entire horses classes w not completed yet. the delay arising over their examination by the officers of the Veterinary Department as to hereditary unsoundness and it is evident the judging will have to be done the day prior to the ether judging. The only championship award so f-r is J. D Mitchell s draught colt "Here 1 Go," who beat E. Short's imported colt Cro g Measure." The latter scored heavily -ia the female classes with imported draught mares. In the sheep classes the champion Southdown ram was shown by Ellis Bros. fßangitikei). S. R Lancaster took 6 firsts in the same classes, and Ellis Bros, two firsts. _ . In the Ltncolns the principal prize-takers were W. Perry, W. H. Wybourne, and E. Short, who scooped the pool. In the Romney classes S. K. .Lancaster W3S the biggest prizetaker. In the Leicesters nine firsts went toG Elliot, who also secured first in the five fat lambs fit for freezing for the London market.
