NOTES. From cabled advices Jack Blackmore went under to Dave Smith in their meeting at Sydney. Smith apparently had the best of it right through and only Blackmore's pluck and endurance kept the fight goinff for so long. The fifth was the last round. Smith got busy early, using both hands. A left to the jaw saw Black more prone for nine, but he rose and took punishment in a manner which surprisei everyone, while endeavouring to do something to> stay the tide defeat. Left swings to the jaw, followed by a couple of jabs through the agency of the same weapon, had Blackmore on his back in his own angle, and without waiting for the count the referee declared Smith the winner. Dave Smith, who is a New Zealander, is showing fine form in Australia, being now amongst the topnotchers. It may not be generally known that he won the amateur middleweight boxing championship of Oiago in igcn. Dave wears a pendant—the trophy won on that occasion. Eddie Brusso (Tommy Burns* brother) who is still not much more than a boy, has been training hard lately intent upon arranging a match with some prominent Australian boxer. Eddie figured in several matches throughout America beforesuffering from a serious illness irs 'Frisco, which compelled absolute rest for many months. Billy Wenand is already in the field as a professional after winning the Australian bantam-weight and championship for New Zealand a* few weeks ago. Bob Turner and Unholz are matched to box at the Stadium, Sydney, on November 17th. Bob is very proud of the gold medal presented to him in the ring at Levin after defeating Jack Griffin, and contends it is first oscasion a gold medal has been presented to a professional in the Dominion. Unholz recently defeated B >b Whitelaw at Maitland, and George Johns at the Stadium. Johns claims to be welter-weight champion of Australia in theabsence of Ted Nelson, who is about to leave England for America. Unholz will win this contest. His condition alone should carry him. through.
