CABLE NEWS.

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.

A TAMMANY MAYOR. New Y'ork, November 3 Mr Justice Gaynor was elected Mayor of New York by a plurality of 60,000 over Mr (Republican). Mr Hearst was third in the contest, with a vote below expectations. There are indications that Mr Gaynor's colleagues will be defeated through the Hearst party's solid endorsement of Tammany's Republican opponents. Reuter reports thati the fusionists claim to have secured most of the minor offices, including a majority on the Board of Estimates and Apportionments, which authorises all expenditure. This control is particularly important in this election, as immense sums are likely to be expended on underground railways and other improvements. THE BLACK LIST. The Court of Appeal for the district of Columbia and Washington upheld the decision on the black list cabled on December 24th. The defendants now appeal to the United States Supreme Court. [The vice-president and secretary of the Federation of Labour were sentenced for contempt in ignoring an injunction and blacklisting a manufacturing company.]
