HASTINGS RUGBY" SUB-UNION All matches at Hastings were postponed to-day. H.B. RUGBY UNION. All matches at Napier were post- . poned to-day. MEETING OF DELEGATES. A meeting of delegates to the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union was held at the Athenaeum, Napier, last evening, Mr W. J McGarth in the chair. The business was to consider proposed amendments to Championship rules, and of the regulations governing the Hawke's Bay Rugby Challenge Shie'd. Championship Rule 19 was amended to provide that any protest of appeal must be in the hands of the secretary of the Union not later than 7 p.m. on the Tuesday following the match ; a copy of the statej ment of protest to be also forwarded to the club complained against not later than 7 p.m. on the first Monday preceding the meeting of the Management Committee. A proposal to amend Rule 23, defining residence of a player, was withdrawn. The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union Challenge Shield regulations (which had been previously submitted to and accepted by the various subunions) were adopted as follows : Hawke's Bay Rugby Union Challenge Shield, for competition between the Napier district champion team and the champion teams of the various affiliated sub-unions under the Hawke's Bay Rugby Football Union. Regulations : I. The Shield shall always remain the property of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Football Union. 2 For the purposes of this'competition the Napier clubs shall form one district, and the various sub-unions, shall also be termed districts. 3 The champion teams of districts shall have the right to challenge; such challenge to be in the hands of the secretary of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union not later than July 30th in each year, or at a later date if found necessary by the Management Committee of this Union. 4. The champion team of the district to which the holders are affiliated shall be the defenders.
5. The Management Committee of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union shall have the right to declare which, if any, of the challenges shall be allowed. 6. A challenge match shall be played on a date to be arranged by the Management Committee, subject to the convenience of the teams engaged. 7. The name of the club and district winning the Shield each year shall be engraved on a silver plate attached to the Shield. 8. The district to which the-win-ning team affiliated shall be held responsible for the production of the Shield whenever called upon by the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union. g. Such district shall cover the Shield by a policy of insurance to its full value, such policy to be forwarded to the secretary of the 118. Rugby Union. 10. Each match shall be played in the central town of.the district holding the Shield, except in the case of Wairoa and East Coast, which shall be played at Napier and Waipukurau respectively. 11. Train, steamer or coach fares of challenging team shall be the first charge on the gate; and the net pro ceeds of, or any loss on, the match shall be equally divided amongst the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union, the district holding the Shield, and the defending club. 12. No Shield matches shal] be played after the last Saturday in i September.
