Chamber of Commerce Conference

PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Wellington last night—The Commercial Conference has concluded. Sir Joseph Ward told a deputation that if the mortgage tax was abol ished and investments brought under income tax as asked those who now desire the change would find they had to pay more than ever. He was prepared to consider presentations regarding' the application of the graduated land tax to business premises. He was not in favour 'of compulsory military service, but proposals would be submitted to Parliament making radical alterations in the present system. He believed these would meet the wishes of those who now advocated compulsory service.
