Meynell and Gunn Company.
" TWO LITTLE SAILOR BOYS." TO-NIGHT. The Meynell and Gunn's Dramatic Company will appear before the pubHc of Hastings this evening, at the Princess Theatre. The piece chosen is one of Mr Walter Howard's cleverest works, entitled, "Two Little Sailor Boys." The plot treats with a marriage late in life of Admiral Grey, R.N., retired from the service, with Lola, a woman with an exceptionally vivid past. Two characters in the story, Captain Tom Yorke (her husband) and Lieut. Redstone, are strongly wrapped up in her career, when the game was equivalent to one of pitch and toss, and men wereruined right and left at the shrine of this Circe. Prior to the opening of the play, in the early days of the Boer War, the hero, Captain Tregarthen, a naval officer, shut up in Ladysmith, made pals with York, who was- suffering from the result of his wife's treachery and desertion. Possessed of a reckless dare-devil nature, the man courted death on all side?- to drown the mental a nxleti ;scaused by his wife's conduct, after a sortie, desperately wounded he makes a confident of his friend Tregarthen, and leaves him a legacy to find his boy, who was taken away by Lola when she deserted him. At this stage he was supposed to have died, Lola Grey, calm and peaceful in her marriage with the admiral, is distracted by the appearance of Lieut. Redstone, who has suffered before a naval court-martial through the evidence of Captain Tregarthen. Hatred of the captain, who is betrothed to the admiral's daughter, and Redstone's intention .to marry her at all haszards, result in implicating Tregarthen in a robbery from the admiral's safe. Redstone by threats compels Lola to swear falsely and ruin Tregarthen. The robbery was really committed by one of her cast off ne'er do wells, Jim Roystone, who has charge of her son, and is bringing him up to a life of thieving and roguery. The influence of Cyril, the admiral's boy determines the lad to steer a straight course, and so the story runs on. Miss Beatrice Holloway and Miss Mabel Russell play the parts of Cyril Gray and Tom Yorke, the " Two Little Sailor Boys," and Mr Herbert J. Bentlev impersonates Captain Noel Tregarthen. The season is for one night only. The prices are being 4s, 2s 6d and Is, the box plan is at Hall's No extra charge will be made for boeking.
