Typographical Conference.

| Wellington last eight.—The second bieuuial conference or the New Zealand Federated Typographical Industrial Association was opened in Wellington to-day. Mr O. H. Chapman, president of the Federatiou, was elected chairman. He said the Federation now comprised seven branches —from Auckland down to Sout) land—with a membership ui over 850, and the conference was thoroughly representative of the craft. There was a growing opinion among members of the Federation fiat hand compositors should not be called upon to work more than forty four hoars per week. The conference proceeded to discuss the desireableness ot establishing a monthly trade journal.
